Ervin R. Baumgart, age 84, a Manitowoc resident, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025 at St. Mary’s Home at Felician Village, Manitowoc.
He was born February 13, 1940 in Green Bay, son of the late Gerhard and Ruth (Hildebrandt) Baumgart. Erv attended Nicolet High School, West De Pere, Wisconsin, graduating with the class of 1958. During his high school years, he proudly formed and directed the Little Rapids 4-H Club’s Fife, Jug, and Bottle Band, which went on to play in Madison. Following high school Erv continued his education at University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he was the president of Alpha Gamma Rho, an agricultural fraternity. Following graduation, he worked as a 4-H Club Agent in Ladysmith, Rusk County, Wisconsin. He then moved to West Bend where he was employed with the Enger-Kress Pocketbook Co. He moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he was employed with the Amnity Leather Company as a production manager. In 1987, he began working with Bernalillo County, New Mexico where he held several positions until his retirement in 2003. Erv enjoyed playing sheepshead and bridge, and was an avid fan of all Wisconsin sports teams. He enjoyed butterflies as well as attending the Annual Albuquerque Balloon Festival. Erv was a very good singer and enjoyed singing in various choirs over the years. He was also a generous supporter of charitable organizations.
Erv is survived by his two children: Amy Baumgart and Steve (Julie) Baumgart; two grandchildren: Nicki and Esmond Baumgart; and three siblings: Nancy Felton, Sandy (John) Andrew, and Gary Baumgart. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Gerhard and Ruth Baumgart; his brother-in-law: Ed Felton; his great-nephew: Jacob Andrew; and a close friend: Ken Sanchez; as well as other relatives and friends.
Cremation has occurred at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory, Manitowoc, and a memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. noon on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the Blessed Angela Chapel at Felician Village, 1635 S. 21st Street, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Andy Wendle. Erv will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, at a later date.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. noon on Thursday, February 20 at the Blessed Angela Chapel at Felician Village.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Erv’s name to Manitowoc County Miracles Special Olympics.
