Joan Lee Anderson Hoffman, age 83, of Manitowoc, died Saturday, February 15, 2025, at St. Mary’s at Felician Village, Manitowoc.
Joan (Jo Ann) was born on January 3, 1942, in Tomahawk, WI, daughter of the late Gale and Lucille (Brunner) Anderson. She grew up in the Minocqua and Hazelhurst, WI area. Joan graduated from Lakeland High School, Minocqua, WI with the Class of 1960.
Joan was the Clerk of Circuit Court for Manitowoc County for 18 years and worked in the Clerk of Circuit Court’s office prior to her election for many years. As the Clerk of Circuit Court Joan was studious in educating herself about the duties of her position as Clerk of Circuit Court and she was very instrumental in beginning the first computerized system for the Manitowoc County Court system. After her retirement she moved to the Dominican Republic to serve people of Elias Pina through mission work in the Elias Pina community for almost 10 years. Joan volunteered in an orphanage while in Elias Pina. She became a foster parent for a very special young girl, Ramona, and helped to provide for Ramona’s significant needs for several years while living in Elias Pina. Joan enjoyed teaching English to those interested in learning the English language in the Elias Pina community, and she also spent time as a self-sponsored missionary teaching English in a male prison in Elias Pina.
Joan returned to Manitowoc and continued to enjoy volunteer work with the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish. She was a Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) sponsor and teacher for many years and received recognition for her RCIA sponsorship of the Hmong Catholic Community. She also offered her service for many years in the Manitowoc community in teaching English to Spanish speaking individuals who wanted to learn more about the English language. Joan volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She also enjoyed volunteering at Felician Village while being a resident of The Gardens at Felician Village.
Joan enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, and she was their very proudest fan. She always enjoyed time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends and sharing stories and having conversations. Joan enjoyed playing card games, music, reading books and educating herself on important issues of the times.
Survivors include her son: Richard (Mary) Hoffman, and grandchildren: Eric (Kelsey) Hoffman and great grandchildren: Addison, Clark, and Ivy; Kyle (Katie) Hoffman and great grandchild: Kendall; Andrew Hoffman; and Joshua Hoffman.
Also, a son: Phil (Michele) Hoffman, and grandchildren: Jennifer (Eric) Pevey and great grandchildren: Teagen, Braylee, and Sasha; and Steven (Molly) Hoffman and great grandchildren: Landon and Liam.
Joan is also survived by her sisters: Jan LeClair and Judi (Jim) Beller, and brothers: Gene (Jane) Anderson; Jerry (Nadine) Anderson; and John (Brenda) Anderson; a sister-in-law: Margo Anderson; and many very special nieces and nephews.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents: Lucille and Gale Anderson, a brother: Jim Anderson, a brother-in-law: Nick LeClair, nephew: Jeff LeClair; sister-in-law: Holly Anderson; and father of her children: Donald J. Hoffman.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish on Grand Ave. Site (1416 Grand Ave.), Manitowoc.
The Rev. Richard Klingeisen will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
