
While the Manitowoc County Youth Hockey Squirt B team battles for a state title in Hayward, the 10U Squirt A team will be in West Salem.
The Breakers cruised to a berth in the tournament with a 7-1 win over Marinette earlier this month.
Coach Case Christensen told SeehaferNews.com that he is very proud with their performance in the playdowns, and how much they have improved this season.
As for their most improved skill, Christensen said, “Passing for sure. They managed to pass the defense these days and it helps us a lot.”
Charlie Loppnow has really enjoyed playing with his friends and teammates, especially at tournaments.
He told us, “We got second place in some tournaments and celebrated.”
Nash Dirkmann scored around 15 goals this season and said he has improved a lot, especially, “passing, shooting just communicating with my teammates.”
Logan Novitski told us his favorite part of the season was taking second at a tournament in Sun Prairie, and gave a bold prediction for the state tournament, saying they are going to “win it all.”
Grahm Christensen, the team goaltender, explained why he enjoys being the man between the pipes.
“I like the intensity and getting shot at,” he said with a smile.
A longtime tradition for youth hockey teams remains alive and well, as Graysen Ross said his favorite part of the season has been, “Playing mini-sticks sticks in the hallways of motels.”
The Squirt A squad earned the #5 seed in the tournament and will start their weekend off with a battle against Stoughton, which is scheduled for 12:15 on Saturday afternoon (March 1st).
They will then take on either West Salem or Medford at 5:45 p.m. if they win, or 4:30 if they lose.
Just like their B team counterparts, the championship game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Championship Sunday.
