
Several local and area wrestlers bring home medals from The WIAA State Boys Individual Wrestling Meet at The Kohl Center in Madison.
In Division Two, Senior Ben Kienbaum of Kiel is the state champion, defeating junior Max Matthias of Two Rivers 12 to 9.
Kienbaum finished the season with a record of 55 and 4, while Matthias’s loss was the first in 46 matches this season.
Kiel junior Logan Schad placed third at 120 pounds, Junior Sawyer Dailey of Plymouth placed third at 190 pounds, and Denmark Junior Steven Kielpikowski finished runner-up at 165 pounds, losing to senior Tristian Stedt of Fennimore in the final.
At 157 pounds, junior Spencer Madsen of Sturgeon/Bay Sevastopol placed third, and freshman Gregory Hellendrung of Chilton/ Hilbert brought home a third-place medal at 106 pounds, finishing his season with a record of 52 and 2.
Two Valders wrestlers place in Division Three. Senior Jack Wendling finished fifth at 126 pounds, and sophomore Brayden Lenz was fifth at 157 pounds.
Mishicot Sophomore Owen Schat placed fifth at 175 pounds. Three wrestlers from Brillion come home with medals, led by sophomore Parker Spierings who finished runner-up to junior Blake Underwood of Marathon. Underwood was 51 and 0 this season.
Sophomore Colton Klug was third at 144 pounds, and freshman Zander Mueller placed fifth at 106 pounds.
Oostburg senior Nash Banko lost in the 175-pound final to senior Kade Rule of Mineral Point, and his teammate, senior Liam Richards, finished fourth at 165 pounds.
At 285 pounds, Kewaunee junior Mitchell Boeder finished fourth, Ozaukee senior Jovan Lopez was sixth, and in Division One, Carson Neubert of Luxemburg Casco is the champion.
The Spartan Junior defeated junior Maximus Hay of Brown Deer/Messmer/Shorewood 6 to 1 to bring home gold.
