A man who has been a part of the basketball culture in Manitowoc for decades was honored at a recent game.
At halftime of the Roncalli girls’ game against Howards Grove on February 17th, Mike Quistorf was praised for his 45+ years of coaching.
The Hangar was packed with members of the Roncalli community, as well as former players he coached, which Mike called a pleasant surprise.
“It was kind of a shock because I didn’t expect…all these people to show that,” he said. “I mean, we had kids him back when I coached grade school here and it’s just a wonderful experience.”
While he was surprised, there were a few signs that something was in the works.
“My daughter from Arkansas showed up with her husband, and they usually don’t come up for games,” he explained. “It’s a wonderful honor. I mean, I just can’t believe it.”
Coach Q’s years of coaching have impacted the lives of so many people, and he told SeehaferNews.com that he did it for one reason and one reason only.
“I’ve always done it for the kids,” he said. “I’ve always believed in that.”
Mike was back on the sidelines Tuesday night (February 25th) in Cedar Grove/Belgium, as the Jets faced the Rockets in WIAA Regional action.
The Jets girls season came to an end with a 70-60 loss to the Rockets.
