Denmark High School was a madhouse Thursday night as the Manitowoc Lutheran girls basketball squared off with Kewaunee in the WIAA Sectional Semifinals.
The Lancer faithful erupted when Lilly Melhourn drained a pair of free throws in overtime to secure a 68-63 win over the Storm.
The Lancers led at the break 31-27, but Kewaunee stormed back in the second half thanks in part to a trio of three pointers by Gabrielle Stangel.
The Lancers defense clamped down in overtime and Lutheran held on for the win.
Mikiah Krause led the way for the Lancers with 21 points, including a 5 for 6 performance from the free throw line, while “G” Ermis added 18 and Addison Korte netted 12.
The free throws that secured the win were part of Melhourn’s 4 in the extra frame.
Ermis also netted her 1,000th point for her career, making her the third Lancer this season to hit that milestone along with Marissa Melhourn and Derek Laabs.
The win puts Lutheran one win away from the state tournament at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon.
First, they will need to go through St. Mary Catholic this Saturday (March 8th).
The when and where has not yet been determined.
