Residents have been displaced after a controlled burn got out of hand.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call yesterday (March 13th) at approximately 3:00 p.m., reporting that a house was fully engulfed in flames.
The Brandon-Fairwater Fire Department and Sheriff’s Deputies arrived to find a home on Highway 44 in the Town of Metomen with its entire west side engulfed.
After completing a check of the home’s burning interior, firefighters were able to extinguish the flames.
Initial investigations show that the fire started as a controlled burn in the ditch before it quickly spread through the lawn, igniting the home.
No civilians or fire personnel were injured; however, the house has been considered a total loss, and the residents have been displaced.
Damage costs at this time are uncertain.
Assisting agencies included Ripon, Markesan, Alto, Fond du Lac, Rosendale, Waupun, Green Lake, and Lamartine Fire Departments.
