Major progress on a new Manitowoc hotel continues.
The hotel being built off Interstate 43 near the AMC movie theater has taken shape, but work is still being done on the inside.
Odyssey Hotels was tasked with construction, and CEO Rachit Dhingra says they’ve been doing a lot of work, but a lot more needs to be done.
“Once dry wall is done, then installation on the first floor, the rest of the floors are done,” he explained. “I think a lot of rough work has been completed.”
Dhingra says there was a pause due to the extreme winter weather, but construction is still on time with an expected opening set for later this year.
He also said that there is a need for a Hampton Inn hotel in Manitowoc.
“The brand like Hilton and Marriot, they’re, basically, world class with a big distribution system throughout the country,” he noted. “So, we thought if we bring the right brand, it’s going to drive a customer base that doesn’t exist there.”
Ground was broken on the hotel site last year. After the first hotel, a second one will be built on the other side of the interstate starting in 2027.
Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels called the hotel not only important for tourism but for local business.
The new Hampton Inn will have 84 guest rooms, including 44 king rooms, three suits, and 37 two-bed queen rooms.
