A Manitowoc native is serving her country and making waves with the U.S. Navy Seabees.
Petty Officer 1st Class Jacquelyn Bruechert, a 2011 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, is serving as a part of Amphibious Construction Battalion (ACB) 1, operating out of San Diego, California.
Two years after her high school graduation, she signed on the dotted line, and began her Navy career as an equipment operator, which is now 12 years on.
Everyone who joins the military has a “why”, and Bruechert told the Navy Office of Community Outreach “I joined the Navy to show my nieces that they could have a better life. I didn’t want to have college debt, but now the cool thing is that if my son wants to go to college, the Navy will pay for it. Not many places will give you that benefit.”
She also noted that she loves braging about her home state, especially the “squeaky cheese curds” because “Most people have never heard of them unless they’re from the Midwest. I’ve brought many hundreds of dollars worth of cheese from Wisconsin.”
