A prominent local dirt track racer has passed away.
Kermit Schulz of Manitowoc passed away last week Thursday (March 13th) at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. Schulz was born in Plymouth where he graduated from Plymouth High School in 1956.
Schulz is best known throughout the area as one of the founding fathers of Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car (EWSC) racing along with the Kettle Moraine Corvette Club.
EWSC spent the majority of its time headquartered at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds before moving north to the Manitowoc County Fairgrounds prior to the track’s demolition.
Schulz was a prominent figure in the short track racing scene across the region hitting tracks in Chilton, Francis Creek, and beyond.
He was honored with induction into the Southeastern Short Track Hall of Fame in 2010.
Most recently, Schulz was named last year as a member of the 2025 Wall of Fame class at Plymouth Dirt Track and will be officially inducted posthumously on the July 12th race night.
