The Manitowoc Police Department is celebrating the retirement of an officer after nearly three decades of service.
The department has announced that Officer Rob Weyer is calling it a career having served the community for 28 years.
Weyer, a class of 1991 Manitowoc Lutheran High School graduate, joined Manitowoc PD in 1997 as a second-shift patrol officer.
He stayed in that role until 2010, when he transitioned to first shift where he served until his well-earned retirement.
Officer Weyer held various positions on the force including DAAT Training Instructor, Firearms Training Instructor, and was on the Search Warrant Team.
He was also well-decorated in his time, having been named Noon Rotary Officer of the Year in 2008 and received the Award of Valor in 2019 alongside another officer for saving a life on a cold winter night, successfully reviving an unconscious individual found without a pulse.
In their statement, the Manitowoc Police Department said, “Rob will always be remembered as the only employee to receive a formal complaint for being ‘too nice,’ making him a truly inspirational figure in our community.”
In retirement, Weyer plans to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, covering over 2,500 miles from Mexico to Canada.
