Sheboygan’s representative in the State Assembly has responded to an executive order to dissolve the Department of Education.
26th District Assemblyman Joe Sheehan has released a statement disparaging the move by Donald Trump, directing the Secretary of Education Linda McMahon to dissolve the very department she heads.
In his statement, Rep. Sheehan said, “President Trump released an executive order that will harm every student in the nation. His call to dissolve the Department of Education is a brazen assault on the separation of powers upon which our nation depends.”
Sheehan also explained that the Department of Education was based on a commitment to equal education opportunities for every student in the United States.
To close his statement, Sheboygan’s representative stated, “It is not the role of the executive to dissolve a department of the United States Federal Government. We have checks and balances for a reason, and a decision of this magnitude requires congressional action.”
