The Port of Green Bay is celebrating the official opening of the 2025 shipping season.
On March 12th, the Innovation with Tug Samuel De Champlain made its way through the port just before 2:00 p.m., making her the first vessel through this season.
The Innovation was towing a shipment of cement, and with that shipment, made a winner out of Anne LaCour of Pembine, Wisconsin.
She predicted the first ship would make its way to port at 2:13 p.m. on March 12, the closest guess in the Port of Green Bay’s Fist Ship contest.
Dean Haen, Director of the Port of Green Bay noted that the Innovation’s arrival is two days later than last year’s start, but said, “This makes for an early start and has us looking forward to what our new season will bring.”
