Sheboygan streets may be getting more colorful.
The City’s Public Works Committee will be meeting tomorrow (March 25th) and one topic up for discussion will be the creation of a Street Art Grant Program.
This program, if approved, would allow the city to apply for state, federal, and private street art grants.
It would also allow officials to engage with and support local artists while promoting safety as well.
Any funding the City applies for through the program would be required to be matched by the City itself.
This program comes after the 2022 Asphalt Art Safety Study which was conducted in 17 cities across seven states.
This study showed that pedestrian safety was increased in and around painted streets, crosswalks, and intersections.
If the creation of a Sheboygan Street Art Grant Program is approved by the Public Works Committee, it will go before the Common Council for full approval.
