A local couple is taking their lessons from years in the restaurant industry to start a new restaurant of their own.
Casey Sherer and his wife Kendra Cordova have opened KC’s Kitchen and Cocktails in the former 10th Street Pub building.
Sherer explains that he always knew that he wanted to cook since he was young. As a kid, Casey and his mom would sit and watch the original Iron Chef TV show from Japan.
After graduating high school, he went to culinary school in Minneapolis to hone his craft.
“It’s a great base of knowledge,” he describes. “You kind of get a crash course in everything. You learn a lot from a lot of great chefs and then, you do an internship after and then you kind of get your foot in the door in the industry and then I worked around Minneapolis and St. Paul for about six or seven years.”
His journey led him to Manitowoc where he met Kendra when they were both working a many local establishments.
While KC’s has typical restaurant food like burgers, tacos, and yes, cheese curds, Casey and Kendra say they are very proud of their vegan appetizers like the Yaki-sprouts.
“We wanted to make this somewhere that people have good options,” she explained. “Because you don’t see a lot of restaurants recognize how good vegetarian food can be.”
The restaurant also offers deals on the vegetarian options and have a new vegetarian item on Monday’s.
Casey also tells SeehaferNews.com that the restaurant has a warm, welcoming atmosphere, perfect for leisurely dinners with loved ones, quick catchups with friends, or solo meals at the bar.
What also makes them stand out, he says, is that almost everything is made from scratch.
Sherer explained, “We just kind of keep it simple like let the ingredients do what they’re meant to do and keep it simple and don’t mess up the good stuff.”
Kendra and Casey also repainted the inside of the former pub, but that might not stop them from taking their food on the road.
Kendra says they are considering starting a food truck. KC’s Kitchen and Cocktails is open from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
They stay open until 1:00 am on Fridays and Saturdays.
