More details have been released regarding a SWAT incident early this morning in Manitowoc.
SeehaferNews.com received the police report from the incident, which began as a traffic stop.
An officer recognized a vehicle belonging to the 55-year-old man, who was known to have a warrant out for his arrest in Sheboygan.
The officer pulled the vehicle over on North 10th Street, just north of Washington Street just after 4:00 last Thursday (March 20th).
The man was said to be uncooperative with the officer, refusing to exit his vehicle, and rolling his window up.
A second officer placed spike strips in front of the vehicle during the interaction just before the first officer attempted to open the driver’s side door.
The man then sped off, however the spike strips failed to puncture the tires.
The man began speeding west along Washington Street, successfully eluding police.
Officers were posted near his home in case he returned. Manitowoc County SWAT was called to the residence in the 1300 block of South 9th Street at around 1:00 this morning (March 24th) as the man had been found inside his home and had barricaded himself inside.
After efforts to resolve the issue peacefully failed, the SWAT team forced entry and arrested the man without any further incident.
The suspect is facing charges of Fleeing/Eluding an Officer, 2nd-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Resisting an Officer, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
He is due for a bail hearing today in Manitowoc County Circuit Court.
