The Manitowoc Chiefs Football program is working on some impressive improvements to its field.
Mike Ponosh was on a recent episode of the On the Line Podcast, where he spoke about the Field of Dreams Fundraiser.
He noted that the Chiefs program is very unique in the fact that they have their own field, while most other youth programs are sharing a space with high schools or colleges.
“We have our own locker rooms where the kids can store their equipment…and again, we have a field that’s available to us 365 days a year, which is very unique,” Ponosh explained. “But the thing is, too, like many things, it needs upgrades.”
On the list of upgrades is the scoreboard, which is being paid for my community and business sponsors, new permanent bleachers, and the most important part, lights.
“We play into October,” Ponosh noted, “So in the evenings, it starts to get a little dark pretty quick.”
They also plan on making the space more ADA accessible. Ponosh noted that the improvements will be added over the next few years, and that they will “finish that facility to the point that it will say a lot about our community’s commitment to the sport.”
