Funding for Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) could be coming to the City of Sheboygan.
The City’s Licensing, Hearings, and Public Safety Committee will be meeting today (March 26th) at 4:30 p.m. and is set to discuss possible grant funding options available for the Police Department.
Currently, the City has the opportunity to submit applications to the NAMI CIT and CIP Expansion Grant program.
If accepted, the City would receive up to $4,500 in grant funds from NAMI Wisconsin, allowing Sheboygan Police Department Officers to receive CIT.
This funding would be entirely from NAMI and would not require any local match from Sheboygan.
Sheboygan Chief of Police Kurt Zemple would be in charge of submitting all necessary information for the application and administering the funds as necessary.
If approved by the Licensing, Hearings, and Public Safety Committee, the resolution would then go to the Common Council for final approval.
