An Eastern Wisconsin Senator has introduced a bill which he says will help Wisconsin receive hazard mitigation and great lakes erosion control funding.
Senator Andre Jacque has teamed up with River Falls Assemblyman Shannon Zimmerman to introduce the measure, which will enact legislative changes needed to allow Wisconsin to apply for and receive Federal Safeguarding Tomorrow through Ongoing Risk Mitigation (STORM) Act hazard mitigation revolving loan funds and administer a Great Lakes erosion control revolving loan program.
Specifically, the bill would authorize the Division of Emergency Management within DMA to enter into an agreement with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to receive federal grant funding for the purpose of establishing a hazard mitigation revolving loan program.
It would also require the DNR to administer a revolving loan program to assist municipalities and owners of homes located on the shore of Lake Michigan or Lake Superior where the structural integrity of municipal buildings or homes is threatened by erosion of the shoreline.
This measure is a re-draft of Senate Bill 64, which was introduced last session.
