An investigation into the former principal at Xavier High School seems to show him having a conversation with a student before he was ultimately fired.
WBAY reports that Appleton Police were contacted by the Diocese of Green Bay regarding then principal Mike Mauthe after leaders were concerned about information they discovered investigating a personnel complaint made to them.
According to the police investigation, the diocese was unaware of Mauthe’s alleged behavior until he announced his resignation from Xavier.
Over 200 emails were found from Mauthe to a now former female student. They were deleted at first but were later recovered.
The superintendent of the Diocese of Green Bay was concerned that the actions could be criminal.
A police sergeant with Appleton Police later contacted the student who told the officer that the relationship with Mauthe was “unhealthy for me and manipulative and hurt the way I see things; I don’t think it was good.”
However, she denied that there was anything sexual going on.
Appleton Police closed the investigation earlier this year and didn’t seek any criminal charges.
