A new unit in the Two Rivers Police Department has been established.
Last year, Police Chief Ben Meinnert talked about the team explaining that it would be officers that would go for warrants, entries, and other investigations in the city.
Assistant Police Chief Melissa Wiesner explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that the entry team has been created for calls that are higher risk but doesn’t reach the level of SWAT level.
“We had tryouts for anybody who was interested, and we ended up having 11 people who were interested and made it through the tryouts,” the Assistant Chief explained. “Now we’re just getting into the actual training for that and getting them as a cohesive team ready to actually go out and work as part of that.”
Meinnert also said that there is a big gap between the severity of times that a SWAT team is called, but it’s still important to the city to have something for certain instances.
Wiesner calls the team another good opportunity for TR Police officers.
