A Manitowoc woman is being accused of being complicit in a child sexual abuse case.
The Manitowoc Police Department reports that detectives were made aware of the abuse on March 26th, after Child Protective Services became involved.
An investigation revealed that a 31-year-old woman, whose relationship with the child was redacted, was told about the abuse by the victim.
However, instead of reporting it to CPS or the police, the woman instead “conducted her own investigation”, in which she determined the victim was not telling the truth. The reason for that conclusion was said to be because the suspect “denied sexual abuse at the time.”
The victim told police that they are “hurting inside” because the woman “doesn’t really help me.”
The alleged abuser was taken into custody on a probation hold at the beginning of the investigation, but it’s not clear if or when charges will be filed.
The woman, meanwhile, was charged with Neglecting a Child Resulting in a Child Sex Offense and Neglecting a Child Resulting in Emotional Damage.
