Wisconsin’s Senate Majority Leader says a recent move by Governor Tony Evers “fails students.”
Gov. Evers recently vetoed Assembly Bill 1, which Oostburg representative Devin LeMahieu says would have restored National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) standards in Wisconsin schools.
Sen. LeMahieu pointed to a perceived hypocrisy in the move, noting, “In January, the governor slammed State Superintendent (Jill) Underly for lowering standards, but when he had a chance to fix it he chose politics over students…If 2025 is going to be the ‘Year of the Kid,’ Wisconsin voters will have to make changes at the Department of Public Instruction.”
