The City of Two Rivers wants to keep trying to develop the land of a former wood product maker.
City Manager Greg Buckley told the council that the city was in talks with a group about a possible residential development at the former Eggers Industry property.
The city acquired the property in 2020 and used some of it for storm drainage.
However, Buckley says the project didn’t materialize because, “The developer mid-summer last year said without significant movements on interest rates the project wasn’t viable as presented.”
The city was looking to invest over $1 million in the development of the land.
Buckley says the development still remains a priority.
“I think it’s important that we revisit, as we discussed briefly tonight (March 31st), what the criteria or at least the goals are for that redevelopment,” Buckley described.
The Two Rivers City Council is interested in getting some housing development in the downtown area were apartments or condominiums.
Eggers Industries started in the downtown building as a wood manufacturer.
The company was founded by Fredrick Eggers and his sons in 1884 and was acquired by VT Industries in 2018.
Eggers and VT still operate out of a plant on Highway 42, making wooden doors.
