Some Eastern Wisconsin communities are getting funding to help communities in flood-prone areas identify flood vulnerabilities.
The $2 million in funding comes from the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs (DMA) as part of the state’s Pre-Disaster Flood Resilience Grant program. Area communities include the City of Green Bay, which is getting implementation funding for restoring a park.
In contrast, the City of Oshkosh and Outagamie County get money for an assessment grant to study water flow and hydraulic structures.
Ozaukee County is also getting grant funding to turn a creek back to its natural shape, surrounding wetlands.
Governor Tony Evers says he was glad to create the program last year to help communities mitigate the impacts of flooding and build flood-resilient infrastructure.
