Residents of Manitowoc who are behind on the Manitowoc Public Utilities payments are being warned of the end of the winter moratorium.
During the winter months, MPU enters the moratorium, which disallows them from disconnecting residential electric service due to the danger that would pose.
However, those who failed to keep up with their bills are still required to pay them in full.
This year’s moratorium will end on April 15th, and customers could face disconnection if a payment plan is not put in place.
MPU also warns that scammers have been known to target customers with threats of disconnection at this time of year, usually by demanding immediate payment using a prepaid card or wire transfer.
The local utility reminds customers that they will never solicit payment in this manner.
Customers who have questions on their billing statement or would like to see if they are eligible for a payment arrangement are encouraged to call MPU at (920) 683-4600 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
