This coming week is Severe Weather Awareness Week, and ReadyWisconsin has some tips for residents.
Severe storms can develop quickly, and knowing what to do when severe weather comes can keep everyone safe.
Wisconsin Emergency Management Administrator Greg Engle says, “It is essential people take time during this important week to ensure each Wisconsinite knows what to do when a tornado warning or severe storm is in their area.”
On Thursday, tornado sirens will sound around the state, including in Manitowoc County.
Emergency Services Director Rhonda Green tells SeehaferNews.com that the local sirens will sound at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. on April 10th.
Some basic practices include creating an emergency plan and practicing it, and knowing where the designated shelters are.
ReadyWisconsin also encourages everyone to have multiple ways to receive alerts about approaching severe weather, including outdoor warning sirens, NOAA Weather Radios, local media, and mobile devices.
You are also encouraged to create an emergency kit for your home.
Tips for creating that kit can be found at ReadyWisconsin.wi.gov.
