The Green Bay Packers are spending big to further the growth of girls’ flag football.
The team announced on Friday (April 4th) that they have awarded $100,000 to 20 high schools across the state to help implement girls’ flag football teams.
In addition to the $5,000 grants, each school also received a girls’ flag football starter kit courtesy of USA Football. Northeastern Wisconsin schools to receive funding include Appleton East, North, and South, and Xavier High School of Appleton.
Regarding the Girls Flag Grant Program, Ryan Fencl, Packers football outreach manager, said, “Since 14 other states already have girls flag as a sanctioned high school sport, it is our goal to have Wisconsin join this list soon. These 20 grant recipient schools, along with others in the state, are helping us make significant strides toward reaching this ultimate goal.”
In an effort to encourage more schools to implement girls’ flag football, the team will award 20 additional grants totaling $100,000 next year.
