Neenah-Menasha firefighters battled two fires this week that started just minutes apart.
Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue was first called to the 700 block of Harding Street in Menasha at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday (April 8th) for a structure fire.
Light smoke was observed coming from the outside of the structure by the first crews arriving on the scene.
They were able to contain and extinguish the flames while preventing any extension into the residence.
They were then called moments later to the 1000 block of West Cecil Street in Neenah for another structure fire at approximately 10:30 a.m.
The nature of the second fire was more severe, and the response was upgraded to a MABAS box alarm 1 to request additional help from surrounding fire departments.
Crews arrived to find moderate black smoke emanating from an apartment’s front door.
Firefighters entered the residence and contained the blaze to the apartment’s kitchen, where it had started.
Both fires have been considered accidental, with no injuries reported to citizens or fire personnel in each case.
However, the second of the two fires caused extensive smoke and fire damage, which has displaced the residents.
Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue has thanked both the Neenah and Menasha Fire Departments, Appleton Fire Department, Town of Neenah Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, the Winnebago County Communication Center, and Menasha Utilities for their assistance in the response.
