Ascend Services Inc. is throwing its biggest get-together of the year.
The 6th Annual Throw with All Your Heart Fundraiser takes place tomorrow (April 12th) from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Tapped on The Lakeshore in Two Rivers.
Ascend Executive Director Deanna Genske tells SeehaferNews.com that she’s excited about another year of the event, which started in February 2020.
Teams who signed up will participate in several throwing games, including axe throwing, hammerschlagen, and cornhole.
This year’s Throw With All Your Heart will have some new activities, including what’s called a wine pull.
Genske says 40 bottles of wine are in bags, but you don’t know what kind it is.
“You pull a cork and it’s going to correspond with a number on a bag, and you get the mystery bag,” she explained. “But you do walk out with a bag of wine.”
The annual event will feature several celebrity axe throwers, along with silent auction items.
Genske says this year’s group comes from all over the city.
Genske listed, “Mayor Justin Nickels in our first one and then we have Troy Adams with MPU. We have Jason Latva, the executive director at Lighthouse Recovery Community Center. Chad Beeman, who’s a city alderman and local artist. Bob Seal, senior vice president of Nicolet National Bank. And then we have the Fire Chief Todd Blaser coming and Alex Hunt who’s the executive director of the Haven.”
Genske says that this year, every dollar will go right back into Ascend Services’ mission to help those with disabilities.
While the event is important to the organization, Genske explained that Throw With All Your Heart is also a great way to unite and educate those who want to know more about them.
“A lot of our clients like to also show up out there,” she said. “So again, it’s like a celebration of that community and inclusion to share the meaningful work we do at Ascend.”
Drivers are reminded to take the detour on Highway 310 to get to Tapped on the Lakeshore due to construction on Memorial Drive between Manitowoc and Two Rivers.
