The City of Sheboygan is looking for a new Biergarten vendor after a contract dispute.
The City’s Public Works Committee met on Tuesday (April 8th) and discussed the future of the Kiwanis Park Biergarten after the previous vendor, John Powers of Power Pubs LLC, chose not to renew his contract with the city.
The item summary from the committee meeting agenda shows that Powers initially looked to extend the contract to operate the Biergarten, but with some specific conditions.
One of the main conditions included his desire to be the only entity to be allowed to run a Biergarten in the city.
This topic also relates to the Sheboygan waterfront and marina master plan, which features concepts of a second Biergarten being in the city at Deland Park.
In the event of that part of the master plan being adopted, Powers wanted the exclusive rights to run a second Biergarten at that location.
The City stated they were not in a position to honor that request, and Powers stated that he would no longer be renewing his contract to run the Kiwanis Park Biergarten this summer.
Sheboygan officials have expressed their feelings that the Biergarten is a valuable asset for the city, and they wish to find a new vendor to assume operations ahead of the summer season.
The City and Bernie Rammer, Sheboygan County Purchasing Agent, will now work to advertise an RFP for a new agreement with a vendor in the coming weeks.
