A home near downtown Sheboygan caught fire over the weekend.
Sheboygan Fire Department Battalion Chief Chase Longmiller tells SeehaferNews.com that crews were dispatched to the 1100 block of Ontario Avenue at 1:20 Sunday afternoon.
Crews arrived to find smoke emanating from the second floor of the residence and that the occupants had already evacuated.
The firefighters jumped into action, extinguishing the blaze within five minutes of arrival with no injuries being reported.
The cause of the fire was said to be the careless use of smoking materials, so Chief Longmiller is reminding residents to “be careful with smoking materials and properly dispose of all cigarettes.”
The fire caused an estimated $10,000 in damage, however ,the residents were not displaced.
