A new coffee shop could be coming to the City of Sheboygan.
The City’s Plan Commission will meet today (April 15th) at 4:00 p.m. with two conditional use permits (CUP) up for discussion.
One of those CUPs has been applied for by Lakeland University to operate a coffeehouse located at 521 Ontario Avenue near Downtown Sheboygan.
Currently, the university uses the location as an event space and a small café for members, however, Lakeland wishes to expand operations and open a coffee shop that is open to the public.
The business estimates they would employ eight workers and would see approximately 50 customers daily.
No renovations would be required, and only some additional furniture, fixtures, and equipment would need to be added.
If the CUP application is approved, Lakeland expects a soft launch and grand opening to be held sometime in May.
Lakeland University had previously operated as a full-time café and restaurant in the same location pre-COVID.
If approved at tonight’s Plan Commission meeting, the application would then move in front of the Common Council for full approval at a future meeting.
