The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to be cautious after a small dog was killed by a bear in the Township of Pelican.
On its Facebook page, the department says the bear isn’t afraid of human beings. It’s said to be about the height of a husky and weighs about 150 pounds. After killing one dog, it tried to get at some more pets and was reportedly pawing at the door of a home after following a woman onto her deck.
The sheriff’s department posting says bears will usually walk away if you yell or whistle, but this one is the exception.
