A major fire has destroyed the closed George A. Whiting Paper Company mill in Menasha.
The fire started Sunday night and crews were still on the scene Monday morning.
The paper mill had been operating for 134 years when it shut its doors for the last time in 2016. Menasha officials call it a great loss to the city’s history.
The first 9-1-1 calls were made at about 7:30 PM when people reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the building.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and authorities are warning people to stay away because the structure is unstable and could collapse.
No injuries were reported.
