A 28-year-old Milwaukee woman won’t have to tell the management of any store she enters that she’s a convicted shoplifter.
The Wisconsin Court of Appeals tossed out that part of Markea Brown’s sentence.
Brown pleaded guilty three years ago to a charge of felony retail theft for helping steal more than $2,600 worth of merchandise from Pleasant Prairie Outlet Mall.
When Kenosha County Circuit Judge Bruce Schroeder sentenced her he said he feels that “embarrassment does have a valuable place in deterring criminality.”
The appeals court disagreed and dismissed that portion of Brown’s punishment.
