Just as things were looking good, the Manitowoc County Health Department reported another spike in COVID-19 cases.
15 new cases were added in their report yesterday (May 18th), bringing the pandemic total up to 7,596, while the number of area hospitalizations fell by one to 28, and the death toll remained unchanged at 70.
Also, 115 new vaccinations were administered. That is much lower than what was being given out day to day, but 109 of those were new patients. The total number of shots given is now at 63,450, with 34,231 of those being first dose shots.
As of yesterday’s report, roughly 43.3% of County residents have gotten at least one dose of a vaccine.
Meanwhile, the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health reported another death linked to COVID. This individual was in the 80-years and older age group and brings the death toll in the County up to 143.
In some good news, only two new cases were reported, alongside 13 recoveries. That brings the pandemic totals up to 13,769 confirmed cases, 13,547 recoveries, and 79 cases remain active.
