An attorney for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee has informed Attorney General Josh Kaul that documents about sex abuse are sealed as part of a 2012 federal case.
The archdiocese is refusing to turn over the information.
Frank LoCoco sent a letter to Kaul Wednesday telling him local prosecutors handle sex abuse cases – meaning Kaul lacks the authority to launch the investigation he announced in April.
Similar investigations are being conducted in 22 states.
LoCoco claims the attorney general is unfairly attacking the church.
