The Helen Gajdys Reis and Lester Reis Endowment Fund have reached a little over 50 percent of its goal for the benefit of the children of Manitowoc County.
George Reis is a spokesman for the non-profit organization in Two Rivers. He tells Seehafer News that with the community’s help they’ve been able to help many children’s groups on the Lakeshore.
He said, “With the help of the area’s generous contributors we’ve provided help to the Two Rivers Optimist Club, Soles For Souls, distributed thousands of coats, and sent children to summer camp who otherwise wouldn’t be able to go.”
Last year they were able to distribute over $43,000 to various entities, and of that over $35,000 was split between Peter’s Pantry and the Two Rivers Ecumenical Food Pantries to help those in need during the height of the pandemic.
However, the demand sometimes outweighs the funding available.
“We’ve been able to satisfy every request but sometimes not for the fully requested amount,” Reis explained. “Every request is reviewed with the goal of never denying funds to a worthwhile organization.”
Reis added that he’s reminded of what his mother told him years ago, if you have enough, pay the rest forward.
Contributions can be made out to the Reis Endowment Fund-P.O. Box 388 Two Rivers Wisconsin 54521.
