A company contracted to help put out the major fire that has destroyed the Chemtool plant south of Beloit was using a foam containing so-called “forever chemicals” before the E-P-A stopped it.
The foam containing the toxic compounds called PFAS (PEE foss) was sprayed on the fire Tuesday before state and federal officials intervened.
Testing of groundwater and a nearby river has turned up none of the compounds so far.
Environmental agencies continue to test the air around the huge fire scene while dozens of families have been kept out of their homes since Monday morning.
