Summer is officially kicking off in the Cool City this weekend, as there are multiple huge events scheduled.
The event calendar starts today with Sundae Thursday. We spoke with City Manager Greg Buckley who said that people can visit Central Park West in Downtown Two Rivers between 5:30 to 8:30 PM and get an ice cream sundae for only a quarter.
“That, of course, commemorates Two Rivers history as the birthplace of the ice cream sundae,” Buckley explained. “[In] 1881, Ed Burners but some of that fountain syrup on top of a dish of ice cream, and the ice cream sundae was born.”
Then on Friday, the 21st annual Cool City Classic Car Cruise and Show will take place, starting at UW Green Bay Manitowoc Campus.
“They will start lining up there at 4:00. At 6:00 PM, they will pull out of the south side on Manitowoc, head north through downtown Manitowoc up beautiful Memorial Drive along the lakeshore for downtown Two Rivers,” Buckley said. “Throughout the evening there will be food trucks, beverage, [and] music on the bandstand. That will continue until about 9:00.”
The cars will also be available for viewing on Saturday from 10:00 to 4:00 PM. While the exact number of cars that will be participating is not known, Buckley said the cruise has hosted up to 600 cars, and the show has had as many as 300 cars.
Also taking place on Friday and Saturday is the triumphant return of Beech Bash, with a full lineup of bands on the docket.
“The headliner on Friday is Head East. On Saturday it is Mount Olive,” Buckley explained. “There are again beverages and refreshments available, lots of great entertainment with no cover charge…beach soccer and garbage ball during the day on Saturday…and two parking lots full of carnival rides for the kids down on the beach.”
All three of these iconic Two Rivers events had to take a one-year hiatus last summer due to the pandemic.
Buckley voiced his excitement to have them back this year, just as big as they always have been.
