The Wisconsin Supreme Court has backed a police search and denied a request for a new murder trial.
The justices ruled investigators were within their rights when they used data pulled from George Burch’s cell phone in another case to convict him of first-degree intentional homicide.
A jury found him guilty of killing Nicole VanderHeyden in 2016.
Attorneys for Burch argued evidence from his phone should have been suppressed.
