It took 8-innings, but the Manitowoc American Legion Baseball team edged the Ahnapee Trail Blazers 4-3 in Sturgeon Bay last night (July 5th).
Post-88 held a 3-2 lead entering the bottom of the 7th when the home team tied it on a passed ball. Then, the visitors scored what proved to be the game-winner on an RBI single by Manitowoc Lutheran athlete Zach Marten which scored Roncalli’s Hunter Chalupny.
Lincoln graduate Jacob Gallagher started and got a no-decision despite allowing 3-unearned runs with 6-strikeouts and only 1-walk in 6-and-2-third innings. Brillion alum Robert Shimek earned the mound victory with an inning and a third of scoreless relief.
At the plate, Ben Walsh of Lincoln went 2-for-3 with a run scored, Kiel’s Brandon Stephany added a base hit, 2-RBI’s and a stolen base while Carter Stebane of Brillion reached base twice on a double and hit by a pitch and scored 2-runs.
Manitowoc (now 7-1 this summer) returns to action tonight (July 6th) with a game against the Kewaunee County Lakers. The first pitch at Casco is scheduled to be made at 7:30.
