The 3rd and final phase of the Manitowoc Family Aquatic Center was officially dedicated yesterday.
Prior to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Citizen Park for the new Warming Pool, Splash Pad and Reservable Shelter, MFAC Friends Group President Amy Fricke-Weigel, paid tribute to project donors, without whom, Fricke-Weigel said, this project never would have happened.
“This project was $2.2 million,” she explained. “I would like to thank all of our donors who have been here through all 18 years.”.
Mayor Justin Nickels specifically thanked Fricke-Weigel for leading the community effort and then termed the latest addition “impressive and amazing.”
“It’s a great asset to the community, and it wouldn’t be here without the board, without the volunteers…and the people who contributed throughout all the years, throughout all the phases.” Nickels said. “It’s truly great to see the community come together.”
The Friends Group president (Amy) also presented a Special Appreciation Award to Project Manager Bill Manis II.
“Bill actually was here every single day, making sure everything was going smoothly,” she said. “It was a gem to have that.”
The 2nd reservable shelter on the aquatic center site certainly came in handy as those at the ceremony huddled beneath it to stay out of persistent showers.
