Bail was set at $1500 recognizance this week for a 35-year-old Manitowoc man after allegedly attacking his girlfriend over a softball game.
Zachary E. Coupous has been charged with Strangulation and Battery, each with Domestic Violence Enhancers.
Police were called Tuesday morning to a residence in the 700 block of North Fifth Street for a report of a physical altercation. Coupous’ girlfriend told officers that the two had gotten into an argument with Coupous denying anything happened. It was discovered that the victim threw a vape pen at Coupous and he responded by allegedly strangulating her with two hands, punching her, and pushing her to the ground causing her to hit her head.
He was taken into custody without further incident. The lone condition of bail is that he has “no contact” with the victim or any premises she may occupy. Coupous is due back in court for an initial appearance on August 9th at 1:30 p.m.
