The Wausau East High School Lumberjacks won’t play varsity football this fall because the program can’t field enough players.
The decision was made after a meeting with players and parents last week.
Athletic Director Kurt Vanden Heuvel says the discussion has been going on for a month.
Head coach Henry Kremnitzer says the Lumberjacks will be back.
Twenty-seven sophomores are signed up, and more than 30 kids have come out for eighth-grade football.
Wausau East will try to play some exhibitions against eight-man football teams this season.
