A Milwaukee County judge says there is probable cause to charge ex-Wauwatosa officer Joseph Mensah in the 2016 killing of Jay Anderson, Junior.
Circuit Judge Glen Yamahiro charged Mensah today (Wednesday) with homicide by negligent use of a weapon. Anderson’s family used a John Doe provision to request the judge take another look at the case.
Mensah found 25-year-old Anderson sleeping in his car in a park and claims he shot him after Anderson reached for a gun. Prosecutors initially determined that Mensah was justified in his actions.
A special prosecutor will be assigned to the case in the next 60 days.
