The Treasurer of Gumby’s Club Fore A Cure said this week that being part of the committee is “very inspiring.”
Tim Zinkel was referring to the fact as treasurer he’s able to see firsthand the tremendous support of the 11th annual cancer fundraiser from the Manitowoc community.
“This year we had a record number of golfers with 90-teams or 368 golfers compared to 317 last year,” Zinkel told Seehafer News. “We had 175 participants in our Run/Walk and we had 13 bowling teams. Because of all this increased participation, we had record receipts for the year.”
But, more impressive to Zinkel is the $57,000 given to cancer victims and their families since the beginning of the year and almost $300,000 since the idea was born by Rob “Gumby” Roseff and his wife Denise.
Rob Roseff, a cancer victim himself, said he had no intention of doing this as more than a 1-year fundraiser and now, 11-years later, Gumby knows the answer to the question “why me?”
“It really bothered me when I was diagnosed,” he recalled. “It was the hardest thing I went through. You know God works in mysterious ways and the “why me” was answered when Gumby’s Club Fore A Cure was born and our group of friends said let’s keep this mission going.”
And, with the record amount coming in from the event early this month, Zinkel said they’re looking at almost doubling the amount of money presented to local families affected by cancer.
All the dollars collected stay local and to make a request for financial assistance, go to www.gumbysclubforeacure.org and fill out an online form.
Gumby said each request is reviewed by their committee and names of those benefitting remain private.
