After being closed for nearly two weeks for maintenance, the Community Built Playground at Upper Henry Schuette Park in Manitowoc re-opened late Friday afternoon (July 30th).
Dan Koski, Director of Public Infrastructure for the city, said volunteers assisted with the numerous repairs the first week of the project including rebuilding and reshingling of roofs on play towers, removing and rebuilding approximately 90% of the railings and spindles, reinforcement of numerous framing and decking issues, addressing a number of safety compliance issues with the play elements, repainting all of the painted surfaces, pressure-washing the deck, and adding new rubber chips.
Koski stated the majority of the expenses for the playground project were paid from a maintenance fund donated by the Friends of the Park, Inc. group in 2003.
