Two southeastern Wisconsin residents were injured early this morning when their vehicle left the road and struck a building in the Village of Francis Creek.
According to Jason Orth, Major-Operations with the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, the preliminary investigation shows 33-year old Daniel Lepak of Cudahy was driving a car eastbound on East Hillcrest Road just before 1:30 AM when he failed to stop for the stop sign at South Packer Drive. The vehicle proceeded through the intersection and collided with the former St. Anne School at 202 S. Packer Drive.
Lepak and his 21-year old passenger, Isaiah Miramontes, of Milwaukee were both trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by jaws of life.
The driver was taken by ambulance to Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Miramontes was transported by ThedaStar to BayCare for life-threatening injuries.
Daniel Lepak was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated, Causing Great Bodily Harm, and Reckless Driving, Causing Great Bodily Harm. He was also issued citations for Unreasonable and Imprudent Speed, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Open Intoxicants and Failure to Wear a Seatbelt.
Orth stated alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in the overnight incident and the Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting in accident reconstruction.
Those agencies helping the Sheriff’s Office included Francis Creek Fire Department & First Responders, Manitowoc Fire & Rescue, Kellnersville Fire Department, Manitowoc County Highway, County Joint Dispatch Center and PK’s Auto.
